Winning Three In A Row | 2023 Rilton Cup Recap Part 2
I think the guys who made draws in better positions don't get a rule of two weaknesses
If have good enough chess commemtors, it does not matter so much since go through pretty goood lines then as well. Anyway most of the times they do exactly what you sudgest
The cluster of players around 30 years old, a terrific cohort, are getting replaced by players about a dozen years younger, maybe eventually an even greater cohort. A dozen years is the difference in age between Karpov and Kasparov and between Kasparov and Kramnik.
Arjun to 1 or 2 next Year - this is my prediction.
These round 1 tournament videos from masters are so instructional for us U1800
Huge pet peeve I have with today's masters on instruction is they analyze games that have already been analyzed to death when there are other more instructive games that convey the same ideas.
I do that same thing. Im thinking about offering a draw but tell myself in my head "No! No draws!"
Better than I thought, 4/5 (last position fooled me, I totally missed the idea of giving up the rook for stalemate)
You'd be dilating your own audience by putting them on eight different streams. Foreign language streams are good though. They bring more people in.
Hammer!
Hard agree. It’s so embarrassing when GMs pretend they understand why the eval is moving but clearly don’t, and end up guessing like four moves before finally getting it. Why am I listening to you commentate if all you’re going to do is read me something I could read myself?
Why not? Because chess is not soccer.
Ok i haven't watched a video in a while, that intro had me cackling at work
Here I am making it easy for you was the scene of searching for Bobby Fischer
You are so wrong chess is not about the Elo bar so much for you to learn
Also, an important thing to mention is preservation! Think about having the ability to watch, like, Fischer’s tournaments! We can record all the games now easily, but since we’re always going back and forth between board, we don’t really have a proper archive of full games of top players! There’s a lot of historical value there missing.
I agree. Some people are saying it’s interesting to see them guess, but they’re not really looking for a killer shot, they’re just guessing at weird moves without even thinking about the ideas. Meanwhile when something exciting happens it’s less interesting when commentators and audience know there’s nothing to find. Why really examine the position or assess odds too much beyond ‘easy to play’ ‘up on time’ when the engine tells you if there’s more to see? It’s really annoying
It's more fun to be able to see what they think is the engine line. That way you can see their thought process along the way and it keeps the viewer more interested and interactive
Tania is garbage tier comentating. GMs Polgar and Leko are my favorites. Danya and David Howell are pretty good too. Robert Hess is very good also.
Not at all She's pretty good at tactics and decent enough positionally Comes up with great ideas often and is also humble enough to admit when she's wrong
Good thing you can fire up your own engine besides the stream
I disagree. It's fun to treat a moment in a real game like it's a puzzle. You know that something is there due to the bar, but you don't know what. It's also fun to try and guess along with the commentators to compare their candidate moves to your own and see their process of solving.
Well, If you use a bar eval in real game you prob cheat
I assume that this young fellow is an IM.
100% agree, I can see 2 forms of commentating related to the engine, either no engine and commentators speculate and comment their opinion on the possible moves, or go full engine and explain the engine's proposed moves. As told in this short, when it's done partially most of the time, it tends to be the awkward game of guessing what the engine wants.
You dissing Daniel?
Dear Chess Dojo, The Uzchess team would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for featuring and supporting our tournament. Your coverage has been instrumental in bringing the excitement of the Uzchess Cup to a wider audience. We are open to all forms of collaboration and look forward to working together to promote the beautiful game of chess. Thank you once again for your support! Best regards, The Uzchess Team
Hey Kostya, How does this app compare to the Polgar books (either Susan's or Laszlo's books). I'm a beginner and taking your advice of a book (Chess Primer) and lots of Tactics. Having this on my phone is much easier than carrying around a book & paper with toddlers around, but curious if you think the tactics here are of equal quality for study material to the Polgar books. If so I'd probably just go with the app, I can get through a lot more tactics that way.
moderatos fucking suck
Why not The McCutcheon???
47:57 I'd like Kramnik to answer this question: "what do you think your statistics rating is?". Not that anyone can pin him down to a concrete answer on any question.
Splitting demos across streams would perhaps make 8 sparsely attended chats as opposed to one with lots going on? 8 chats means 8 different moderators and the cost may or may not scale adequately for this sport. 🧐
I'm sure I'm usually wrong, but it's nice to know a GM is looking at the Survival answers and saying: "That made no sense."
Probably the best ever
1:17:00 was d6 just trapping the Queen there?
Ok good vid, but I think it's very sloppy not to mention that literally it's not his goal to reach master, he just thinks it's possible - and he is very much against a rating based goal, for the reasons you described and more. Guess how I learned about this? He literally talked about this at length - in the interview "Dojo Talks Habits feat. Neal Bruce".
jesse tends to underestimate hikaru. the last two candidates hikaru always performed better than jesse’s predictions😊
Vishy will keep him focused.
He looks like he’s 30 is a violation💀
He does look like a father of 2 💀
Pragg said in an interview that his focus is going to be on upping his rating this year. I am sure he is eyeing a top 5 spot and it will be very easy to make a case for his reaching there.
im glad jesse never lets david forget about the Philidor incident
Kramnik 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Normally I would advise putting on your thinking cap, but in this case, it would be more apt if you took it off 😁😉
When people say someone believes a "conspiracy theory" they don't mean the person is making an educated guess that a group of people are hiding something. That's just a theory. A conspiracy theory is something that is almost certainly not true, but a person believes in it without much regard to the evidence. Imho, Flat Earth is a conspiracy theory. So is the idea that the medieval ages never happened and were fabricated to make Russia look bad like Kasparov believed. Ymmv on whether many other theories should be considered "conspiracy theories' or not, but I think IM David is using the term incorrectly. It's not just a theory, it's a theory that couldn't possibly be true.
Wei Yi will be among the top 10.
I'd love to play training games with you david!? Im 2200fide but j haven't played since the pandemic. I feel like ive got better
That's a shit take for so many reasons..
Cool ending nonetheless
Top 5: 2026 1) mishra 2) that young guy that beats Magnus and Hikaru titled Tuesday 3) esipenko 4) erigaisi 5) gukesh/ Firouzja
Nice list! Esipenko is kind of a wildcard as is Mishra at number 1, I believe he will need a bit more time, but I fully support it. Where would Abdussatorov be in your list?
6 place
Senseis: bring a statistician in a dojo talk to explain why the rating change will not bring a rating inflation Also Senseis: unanimously agree that there will be an inflation next year
At the moment Nakamura has a 33.3-point lead over Abdusattorov and 38.6 points over Gukesh. Not saying it won't happen, but to go ahead of him they'd have to be +3 or +4 in a head-to-head competition against him or the equivalent. If his rating remains where it is, they'd have to gain those amounts of points over their current rating, and during the past year nobody whose rating started over 2733 gained that many points. Nakamura plays very few classical games--he may already have played his last one of the year--and in the 70 classical games he's played during the past two years, he's lost two. So--tall order.
Good analysis. I agree :)
Why are u biased against nepo on this show because he is a Russian??
He has always been a "wildcard", even when he was a teen. Some very high highs and some very low lows. He even gave up chess for a while to, I think, play DOTA professionally. It is very hard to rank a player like that.
@@odysseas573 he is pretty consistent since many years like his rating bhas not dropped below 2750 since 2020
